The hotel has a lovely dining area that stays open all day, plus complimentary coffee, tea, and cakes throughout the day and night. It’s very clean, my room was spacious, and the bed and pillows were wonderfully comfortable. Mr. Luiz Pinto welcomed me and was the nicest man I met in Portugal. He gave me lots of help choosing city attractions and shared historical insights. The next day Isabella at reception kindly helped me find my way to the airport and kept my luggage while I finished sightseeing. My stay at Memória was wonderful, and I’ll definitely stay here again on my next visit to Portugal.

The service was poor throughout, and it felt like management was complacent because the location is convenient. Except for one staff member, everyone was rude. When I passed reception on my way to breakfast, they never even greeted me, just asked for my room number. For a four-star hotel, I wasn’t offered a welcome drink, and the housekeeping was so bad I had to ask them to come again. There’s no proper hook for a shower towel, and even if there were, I’d wonder about hanging it right over the toilet. The lobby always had only three umbrellas to rent. I’m staying at a similar hotel in Lisbon now, and they have over ten umbrellas even on a dry day. The hair clump in my photo came off a shower towel. Anyone who’s done laundry can guess it came from the washing machine, and nobody removed it, even though it was visible. I also got a swollen arm from a mosquito bite, plus two more bites elsewhere. I turned on the light at 4 a.m. to catch the mosquitoes and lost a night’s sleep. Korean travelers know what a four-star hotel should be like. This really wasn’t one. The price difference from a five-star place wasn’t even that big, so why did I spend five nights here? It was the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed at, and didn’t even meet a two-star standard.

The staff were fantastic, friendly, and took the time to make us feel at home. After 2pm, there’s complimentary coffee and cake, as in other FLH hotels, which was a nice treat. We also enjoyed the buffet breakfast, though it was a shame that some guests didn’t use their inside voices. Our room overlooked the river and beyond, and it was lovely sitting in the armchairs to take in the view. The hotel is close to the heart of Porto, and the quaint rooms have the amenities you’d expect from a four-star place. The queen beds were super comfortable, but the pillows flattened to nothing when we put our heads on them. The toilet and shower are in the room, so there isn’t much privacy, but that was fine with us. No complaints, it’s an awesome hotel.

The room was newly renovated and nice, with a great view of the river. Every so often, though, louder noise carried over from other rooms. The location is the reason to choose this hotel.

The rooms were a good size, nicely equipped, and had comfortable mattresses. Double glazing kept outside noise out really well. Breakfast was included and very good, with boiled or made-to-order scrambled eggs as the only hot choices, which suited us fine. We also appreciated the complimentary tea, coffee, homemade cakes, and pastries available in the breakfast room all day. The reception was staffed throughout the day. The hotel is very well placed in Porto, around 100 yards from the river, and seemed to have had a recent refurbishment. The decor throughout was lovely.
