Merc Porto Downtown

The bedroom was unbearably hot and airless. Its fake window looked onto the enclosed stairwell, giving it no fresh air, and the ceiling fan only stirred the stale air and dropped settled dust. The listing photos didn’t show how dark and unattractive the bedroom really was. The shower was clean and modern, but so tiny I had to squeeze in and out, with no room to have a spell safely. We were shocked to find three steep flights of stairs and had great difficulty hauling our luggage up. The booking ad hadn’t mentioned this. We’d assumed from the hotel listing that this was a hotel apartment, but it was a private place, which was our mistake. The main living room was decent, with windows and light, but after one night the bedroom felt impossible to breathe in. The heat and lack of air hadn’t been mentioned either. There was no service at all. We wanted to leave right away because struggling up and down those stairs to get food wasn’t part of our vacation. A hotel around the corner was much cheaper for four people and included breakfast, AC, and service. We felt deceived, and Booking wouldn’t offer a refund, so we reluctantly stayed in this expensive place. Bye bye, Booking!
