Oporto Sky Hostel

It's quiet, and the metro is nearby, though the walk to the city center is a bit long. People don't interact much, which was fine for me since I only used the place to sleep. It works perfectly well, but as a tourist I think you could find a better, cheaper option closer to the city.

If there were no bed bugs, this would be a great hostel. It's gorgeous, with a great kitchen, bathrooms and a lovely back garden. But on my first night, less than an hour after getting into bed, I saw multiple bugs on the sheets, pillow and walls. Reception kindly moved me and another guest to another room and gave us garbage bags for clothes that might be contaminated. Another guest saw the bugs too. In the morning, the owner strongly denied there were bed bugs and told me I hadn't seen them. To her credit, she later stripped and cleaned the room well, but new guests were in it within 24 hours, and I can only hope the deep clean was enough. I got multiple bites even in the other room, and my clothes were certainly contaminated. I had originally booked a four-person female room, then was moved to a mixed eight-person room, with no mention of compensating the price difference or helping with laundry costs. Honestly, fighting the owner over about 10 euros didn't seem worth it. Also, there were reviews about bed bugs from a month or two earlier.

The garden was so calm and peaceful, a lovely spot to sit and read. I was walking the Camino Portuguese, and the friendly, knowledgeable staff were a huge help and full of useful information. The place was cozy and quiet. A 10/10 experience for me :)

The rooms were clean and the common area comfortable, and the hostel itself was nice enough. What shocked me was learning on checkout day that I could leave my bags for only a few hours and couldn't stay in the common area until my evening flight. I've never come across that policy at any hotel or hostel I've used. If you stay here, arrange your outbound trip for around checkout time, or be ready to carry your suitcases or backpacks around for the rest of the day.
