Portas do Bolhão

The owners were friendly, the place was impeccably clean, and the thoughtful details showed how much care had gone into it. Even with on-and-off rain during my four days and three nights in Porto, staying here made the trip feel both perfect and restful. It's somewhere I'd recommend to anyone I love. That says enough. The location is very convenient. Bolhão Market is right in front, two grocery stores are downstairs, and the subway station is very close. Majestic Café is nearby too, and the owner marks places on a map, though there are plenty of good restaurants around. São-Vento Station is less than ten minutes away. I arrived on a Sunday afternoon and was struck at first by how run-down and deserted the city looked. But after climbing the old staircase and opening the front door, I found sunlight pouring through wide, tall windows. Among all the restaurants and places I stayed on this European trip, this was by far the best.

The hosts were very helpful. When we arrived, they gave us port wine and strawberries, then left us delicious bread and olives the next day. It's a compact studio, full of sunshine and quiet.

The location is fantastic, and Ana was a very friendly host. The kitchen is excellent and fully equipped. The main hassle is getting to the third floor with luggage, since there's no elevator. There's no air conditioning either.

It's in a great part of Porto for exploring, and this aparthotel is fantastic and very well equipped. The only real drawback is that there's no elevator, so hauling luggage up and down is difficult. Highly recommended.
