The Colony Guest House

The common areas and guest house were decent, and breakfast was quite good, but the room and the staff’s lack of response to its problems made our stay less pleasant. The door handle and toilet lid were broken. The room was fairly clean, though there was too much hair around, including a couple of hairs in the bed. Water supply problems in the area meant the water was brown on the first day. From the third day until the next morning, there was no hot water. There was also a bad smell coming from all the bathroom drains. I know the water issue wasn’t their fault, but they could at least have offered a small discount for all the discomfort. The accommodation is passable, but the management is inadequate.

Everything else was fine, and the rooms were clean, but don’t expect a proper window. I stayed last Thursday and the previous Saturday with two friends. We each had a single room, and the “window” was tiny, and I mean SMALL! At €65 per night, it wasn’t cheap.

The staff, especially the lovely lady, were always friendly and helpful. Our flight was early, so she arranged breakfast for us at 6.30 am even though the usual breakfast hours are 9 to 12 am. The rooms were big and very clean. We had two great nights at the colony guest house, and I can totally recommend this hostel!

Henedina was a great host. She paid attention to the details and gave us useful tips about places and food. The apartment had everything we needed and was in a central area, making it a very good choice for a stay in Porto. Check-in was on time. I do recommend it.
