I was trying to be a cooperative tenant and didn't think I was causing any trouble. As an Erasmus student, I have friends here and wanted to study with them, but the host said I couldn't have friends over, even just to relax in the garden, unless I got his permission first. He said this was in the house rules. I looked for those rules on Airbnb and Uporto House and couldn't find them. I asked several times to see what was forbidden, but still haven't received them. The house itself is clean and the location is okay, but I wouldn't recommend it for a long stay. The host spoke to me rudely several times and could be aggressive. He interrupted me and didn't listen when I tried to talk things through. Once, he came into my room at 9 in the morning without knocking. After that, my boyfriend contacted Airbnb, and they said he couldn't do that because renting the room meant it was my private space. I also wasn't told there were cameras in the house.

The shared kitchen has a bit of a 'Gran Hermano' feel to it, so it depends on guests following the house rules, and that's variable. For a 2-star hostel, though, it does the job.

A pleasant stay, though a few small things could be fixed to make it top-notch. The center is about 25 minutes away by bus, so the location isn't ideal for getting there. The supermarket near Continente is handy, and there's a cafe bar to consider for breakfast.
