The bed was comfortable, and the room was quiet enough to rest before my early flight. The host was generous and helpful, shared local knowledge, and even gave me a beer while we chatted.

The host was pleasant, but the house was old, smelly, and constantly hazy from his smoking. Nothing felt clean. I didn’t want to touch anything in the kitchen or bathroom, and the bed quilt was stained. I hadn’t realized the owner lived there too and would be around. There were two cats, which added to the smell, and I’m allergic, so I wouldn’t have stayed if I’d known. The location seems handy for an early flight, but getting from the city to the airport takes enough time that staying here doesn’t really make it worthwhile.

The host is super friendly and helpful. It’s a 30-minute walk to or from the airport, and taxis cost 8 Euros each way to Ponta Delgada center. Some tour companies won’t pick you up here, though others will. The furniture and bathrooms aren’t new or fancy, and it’s not hyper-clean. If you want that, you’ll need to spend more and look for a hotel.
