The apartment is new, spotless, well looked after, and really quiet. Shops, a pharmacy, and a hospital are close by, and the ocean is only 5-10 minutes away. Its location in Ribeira Brava worked brilliantly for getting around Madeira: the airport is about 30 minutes away, Funchal about 20, and there’s a direct road north. We could reach anywhere on the island in roughly 40-60 minutes at most. Inside, there are two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living room, kitchen, two balconies, and a garage spot for the car. It’s fully equipped, including a dishwasher and washing machine. Emidio is a very helpful, friendly host. He put together a detailed guide to Madeira’s trekking routes for guests, and I found it better than the official guide.

The boiler kept switching off whenever I showered, so I had to reset it before I could get hot water again. Aside from that, it’s a beautiful house in a very strategic spot.

The mattresses were the one uncomfortable part of our stay. They were much too hard, and the springs started digging into your skin after only a little while. I’d strongly suggest replacing them with newer mattresses without springs. The rest of the apartment was great for us as a couple, and it would suit a family of four too: it’s spacious, has two bathrooms, and the bedrooms are both large. The kitchen had everything we needed, including a blender, griddle, and basic seasonings. There are views of the mountains and ocean, and the central location is handy if you’re touring the island by car.

A really pleasant place to stay, with a modern, nicely equipped apartment and a reliable, welcoming host.
