Quinta de la Rosa

We arrived by train, which was a lovely, easy way to see the Douro Valley and the beautiful station at Pinhao. From the hotel there are excellent local walks, and the included winery visit was fascinating. We even got to tread the grapes, a special experience that’s only available during the harvest. The rooms fit into the landscape, connected by gardens, and there are pools and plenty of loungers for cooling off. Our bed was very comfortable and the shower was good. We ate well at both restaurants, with lunch and supper snacks at Tim’s Terrace and a beautifully presented, delicious meal at the restaurant. Breakfast was excellent too, with fresh fruit, homemade yoghurt, and different breads and croissants. The staff were friendly throughout our three days. Quinta de La Rosa has wonderful views across the Douro Valley, and I’d love to come back.

Sophia made the week unforgettable. I stayed in a beautiful room in the Amarela area of the Hotel and took a tour. For a slower day, Tim’s Terrace was a great choice, especially the beer and pizza. I also loved the Portuguese dishes at the hotel’s restaurant, paired with La Rosa’s wines, and dessert with Port. The whole experience felt authentic and warm. It was lovely to see a family business at work, surrounded by spectacular vineyards and views. The amenities were great for relaxing and unwinding.

We had a private wine tour and tasting with Patricia, who was kind, helpful, and clearly passionate about the vineyard. One night we even got to stomp grapes, which we’ll always remember. During our two-night honeymoon stay, we also enjoyed both restaurants, Tim's Terrace and Cozinha da Clara. The pool was fabulous, the views were breathtaking, and our clean room had a beautiful view from the balcony. If you’re visiting the Duoro Valley, stay here. Thank you!

Book ahead if you want a tour, since getting a place by just turning up seems difficult. We arranged a private tour and tasting for four and had a great time. The team were friendly, helpful, and knew their stuff. We loved the wines, and the cured meat and cheese pairing was delicious. We definitely recommend it.
