The view alone made this a five-star stay. Herdade is easy to find, and it has the kind of small-town charm and well-kept, lock-up-and-go facilities that suit a quiet retreat. Isabel was a saint of a host. She was knowledgeable, direct, and a real example of Portuguese hospitality, even when speaking outside Portuguese.

We were invited by SMS on the way over to join dinner, and the set menu was very reasonably priced. It was homemade food in a rustic, typical setting, served by kind hosts, and it was great. The place is quiet and clean, right beside a small town near Odemira. The rooms are comfortable, and there’s a barbecue spot, pool, and shared area where you can relax and use the kitchen and fridge, or cook for yourself. A cozy little escape. We’ll definitely come back.

A spacious house and a relaxing place to stay, with a nice breakfast. The outdoor floor and breakfast room are rustic and beautiful, but both have rough stone surfaces, so it may be difficult for people with walking problems.
