Quinta da Cova do Milho

We enjoyed sitting in the back garden with a beer and watching the sunset each evening. Our bungalow at the back was quite nice, with enough parking available. The hotel has an old, antique style and a charming atmosphere, though you shouldn't expect anything too luxurious. Breakfast was the same every day, and we didn't have dinner because it was quite expensive. It's about a 15-minute drive from the airport, but getting there isn't straightforward. The roads have steep hills and sharp curves, so taking the longer route is advisable. Google Maps marks the wrong entrance, and signage is limited. It's easy to find from one direction but easy to miss from another. Given how many tourists stay here, it was surprising that nobody spoke English when we arrived in the evening, which I think is a major drawback.

The staff were very friendly, and we had a great stay. Our room was enough for us and our 11-month baby. Dinner was well prepared and served in a cozy setting. The surroundings are beautiful. If you're driving, the larger road is the easiest way to reach the hotel, since the smaller ones can be quite steep.

A lovely family-run place, with friendly service and beautifully cooked meals. The rooms were very comfortable, the grounds were well maintained, and it was an easy walk into town or to the nearby golf course. Free wifi too.

It's peaceful and quiet, a lovely place to retreat and switch off, with lots of green scenery around it. The staff were kind and made our stay wonderful. Our rooms were spacious enough and had both air conditioning and heaters, which I appreciated. At another “4 star” hotel on the island, we had neither, and the summer heat made the nights very uncomfortable. The WiFi from the upper wasn't connecting. I was told that was a temporary issue and would be fixed. Kudos to Quinta Da Cova Do Milho.
