The view of Pico and Faial from the windows alone made this a special stay. The individual cottages and room complex feel authentic to the island, and the owner and her family were warm and kind from the start. They greeted us at the entrance and showed us around. It’s only about 5min from the airport, yet tucked down a side road among greenery, with nature sounds all around. Breakfast was included, delicious, and filling, with local eggs, cheese, honey, jams, fresh bread, and fruit. We also loved Fornos de Lava, the restaurant on the property where breakfast is served. We had dinner there both nights because the food was so good and featured local products. The filet mignon was very tender, and the cataplana of fish and shrimp was lovely. We’ll easily stay here again on our next visit.

Service was very personable, and dessert was divine, a milk creme like creme brûlée. The sausage appetizer and olives were very good, and the fresh salad was welcome since many places don’t serve vegetables, which I find strange. We had the cataplana with meat and local island clams. It was good, though it could have been better. Maybe the sauce used Knorr seasoning rather than being made from scratch?

The food was quite good, especially the share dish we had, but the service made things uncomfortable. At first we couldn’t order, and it took quite a while before we could, then the appetizer arrived. They tried to be friendlier later, but the service and attention still weren’t accurate. They mean well, though there’s room to improve.

The breakfast was amazing, and the view of Pico island was stunning. It’s surrounded by nature and has a really relaxing atmosphere. The lady who runs it and the rest of the staff are lovely. My girlfriend and I also really enjoyed the company of the kitties. I liked the rooms’ old, rustic style, though it might not be for everyone. I’m giving four stars because they could do more with all the space. There’s a huge balcony with only a few plastic tables, and it would be beautiful to have breakfast there. There’s also a Minigolf field that’s been left untended.

The fish was really fresh, and the steak with gratinated local cheese was great. Friendly service and a lovely view made the meal even better.
