Breakfast with a forest-like feeling and Mount Pico across the water was amazing, and the views really are unmatched. We loved staying here for our honeymoon. Just keep in mind that it’s a yurt, so there’s some roughing it compared with a hotel. There’s no AC, and it could get warm inside during the day depending on the temperature.

The views are fantastic, though reaching the yurts at the top means carrying your luggage partway up the hill since cars can’t get there. I’m not usually a yurt person, but these were lovely, well equipped, and the service was incredible. Breakfast was delicious, with everything grown on the property.

We loved staying at Retiro Atlantico. The terrace has a great view, and the location makes for an easy, relaxed stay. Breakfast was lovely, with local products and fruit from their own garden.

The yurt had a lovely ocean view, plenty of outdoor space, and a good bed, sheets, shower, and towels. Breakfast was good too, with fresh juice and bread, plus excellent lemongrass tea and coffee. They wouldn’t make a soft-boiled egg when I asked. There are lots of do’s and don’ts, and the shared kitchen’s cups and dishes weren’t always clean. The shampoo was very watery, and the Wi-Fi slow. It was otherwise very quiet, but barking dogs in a nearby cage meant I slept terribly.

Natasha and Hugo made us feel so welcome, and they know the islands well. Their hiking and sightseeing suggestions were great. We loved our tent and its amazing sea view. Everything felt clean, modern, stylish and cozy, with hipster touches that were refreshing in the middle of the Azores. The breakfasts were a treat, especially Natasha’s homemade bread, baked every night. Being vegan wasn’t a problem for them at all, which is rare to find in the Azores. Hugo has an impressive organic garden and gave us delicious fruit and vegetables for dinner. There’s a fully equipped open kitchen for guests, a supermarket nearby, and a place to swim and snorkel within walking distance. The whole place feels special and cared for with so much love. We miss it already and will definitely return soon. I highly recommend staying with them; it’s hard to imagine a more comfortable, special, and welcoming place on Sao Jorge.
