The outdoor area is great for relaxing, and the location and view are lovely. Inside, the room is nicely decorated and the bed is comfortable. There were a few annoyances, though. Small insects kept getting in under the door, and we had to remove three centipedes as well as a couple of flies. The door doesn’t close quietly, so we had to bang it shut at night and felt bad for anyone sleeping. The same goes for the small bathroom and side windows. The bathroom smelled, possibly because there wasn’t water in the pipes. I poured water down every drain and the smell eventually faded. Maybe this is a nitpick, but the rack above the bathroom mirror sticks out too far for the sink. I bumped my head on it twice while spitting out toothpaste. I’m clumsy 😅, though I think it’s a design flaw.

We had a great stay at Sara Village. Miguel, the owner, and the rest of the staff made us feel welcome. Our room had a lovely view over the sea and Sao Jorge island.

We stayed for six nights and felt the price matched what we got. The rooms are modern, there’s a big parking area, and we didn’t want daily cleaning, but they would do it if asked. The welcome was amazing, and the owner was ready to help with anything. Miguel is such a great person. We’ll definitely come back with friends and family. 😍😍😍

The owner was very welcoming, and I appreciated having a parking lot. It does feel a little far from everything. The rooms were somewhat damp and not very soundproof, unfortunately. You can hear other guests showering.

The views were nice, but there was only one table in the outdoor areas. There was no air conditioning, as advertised, and not even a fan in the room, so nights were hot and muggy. Compared with the other places we stayed in the Azores, this one looked good but things seldom worked. The bathroom door wouldn’t close, we couldn’t lock our room door, and the bathroom fan, with no windows, sounded like a small plane taking off. Room service had been promised but never came, and we actually went a day without toilet paper. We saw our first cockroach of the two-week island trip in the room, along with mosquitoes. The owner was friendly and helpful, though a bit intrusive for our north-European taste. He seems to live on the premises, and the communal area doubles as his office, where he watches TV and listens to music, sometimes at the same time. Next time we’ll spend a bit more in the hope of getting something closer to a hotel room.
