The Waves Hostel

The sunset views are stunning, and the guests were considerate and kept the nights pretty quiet. Parking was easy to find and felt safe. The beach-themed decor is a nice detail, and the place was cleaned often and kept spotless. I also appreciated the simple comforts: good free coffee, towels, nice sheets, comfy beds, privacy curtains in the single rooms, and plenty of dehumidifiers, which you really need right by the beach. The two owners are brothers from Brazil, both really friendly and fluent in English and Portuguese, and maybe other languages too. This is one of the best hostels I've stayed in, easily. I'd come back for sure. I'd really recommend having a car. It's pretty remote compared with other towns on the island.

Being right by the sea means you can hear the waves all the time, and there are just six rooms, so it never felt too crowded. I spent 11 days at Waves Hostel and was comfortable throughout. The host is very friendly and caring, greets guests in person, and is always attentive to how things are going. The rooms are practical and clean, though they're quite dark because there are no windows. There's a pleasant shared room, and the kitchen has what you need. The separate single rooms also give you a bit of privacy. It's great value for the money, and I'd happily return. Thank you!

On my first trip to Madeira, I had a great time here. The owner was happy to check me in even though I arrived late, and showed me around briefly. My room was very tidy, with towels supplied, and there are lots of quirky little things to spot during your stay. The kitchen covers most cooking needs, with assigned room in the fridge and for food kept outside it. The views of the huge waves are fantastic. A car would definitely be useful, but I enjoyed exploring on foot and taking in the scenery. There aren't many places to swim nearby, though there's one further up by club naval. For the area, I'd say it's a good option, especially at this price.

The ocean and natural surroundings make for a breathtaking view. Yes, it's in the north and colder there, but the area is quieter and less crowded, and having a car should make that fine. We rented the whole studio, which felt cozy and thoughtfully arranged, not like a bare-bones rental. We were greeted with wine, cookies, traditional cake, beer, water, fruit, milk, and cereal. That really touched me. No one had ever welcomed us that way before! The kitchen had everything we needed, including beach towels. Closing the window cuts down the ocean noise quite a bit thanks to the sound insulation. The only thing that bothered me was the bed creaking loudly when you're more active. 😅
