Quinta Marugo

The owners made me feel really well looked after, and the views were incredible. I was there for a yoga retreat my studio in the States had booked. Quinta Marugo is a beautiful, thoughtfully designed eco-friendly place, with lovely rooms. I had a wonderful time and can't praise it enough.

Caravaggio and Pino could have stepped out of a Disney movie. They joined us on every walk, guiding us through the lovely countryside, stopping to play by a little lake, then leading us safely back. The other animals were just as welcoming, too, and happy to get some attention. We spent two nights at Marugo, and the team made the stay. Ugo greeted us warmly as we arrived along the country road from the gate, and his lively, friendly manner made us feel at home right away. Caroline put so much care into the vegetarian breakfast and dinner, using fresh garden produce and ingredients from nearby neighbors. The bread, cheese, and eggs were delicious. Nishal was also warm and genuinely interested, and kept the rooms and grounds in great shape. The main building's dining and living areas felt calm and were nicely decorated. We loved relaxing on the comfortable couches and looking out over the garden and natural pool. Our room was clean and lovely, just right for unwinding after a restful day. Take a moment to look up at night, too, the sky was full of stars. It's one of the best places we've visited in a long time. We couldn't think of anything that needed improving, and we'd definitely come back.

The food was a real highlight when my partner and I stayed, the chef made vegetarian dishes that were delicious, creative, and full of flavor. We also felt warmly welcomed by Ugo and MaryAnn. Quinta Marugo is a peaceful, beautiful place, with lovely countryside views all around. Spending time meditating in the pagoda felt heavenly, and the rooms, decor, services, and grounds were all exquisite. We had a wonderful stay and plan to return at least once a year. We're also keen to join some of the workshops and retreats MaryAnn and others offer. It's a comfortable, elegant spot for disconnecting, resting, recharging, and feeling grounded amid Portugal's rural scenery.

The host was easy to talk to, very welcoming, and had a great sense of humor. We had a wonderful couple of days thanks to the peaceful atmosphere, tasty food, and lovely location. We stayed two nights and really hope we get to come back someday.
