Luna Esperança Centro Hotel

The location was great, the price was reasonable, and the lobby was nice. The room itself was comfortable, if a bit dated, but it stayed too warm for sleeping. We visited in mid-January and it was around 75F even with the window open. There's heating but no A/C, which I didn't mind; the trouble was that the air felt stale. The fan setting on the thermostat didn't work, and the front desk couldn't sort it out. I'd open the window wide a couple of hours before bed to cool the room down.

The staff were consistently helpful and attentive, and they managed to accommodate a special request on the day I arrived. Breakfast was great, with what you need for a good meal. My room had plenty of space without being crowded with furniture. It was basic, but had what I needed, including a mini fridge that worked fine for the few days I used it. The bathroom was practical rather than fancy. The bed was firmer than I prefer, but that's personal taste. Heat and noise were the real drawbacks. Even with the heating turned off, the room stayed very warm and I had trouble sleeping. The walls are so thin that I could hear people in the next room, even when they were quiet. Outside, motorcycles, cars, trucks, and pedestrians were so loud that more than once I thought there was a riot out front. The street noise is the one thing that would make me think twice about staying again. I travel a lot, and there's nothing else I can fault.

I booked three days in September through an agency for 390 euros, then realized I'd made the booking twice and immediately canceled one. The hotel has now charged me 780 euros. They say cancellations are charged in full, even when the duplicate booking was a mistake. I offered to come another week and use the cancellation fee, but they refused. I've never dealt with anything like this. Be careful, they’re thieves!

The room I had was spacious, and it came with a mini fridge. Really cute hotel.
