HI Tavira Pousada Juventude - Hostel

The hostel is in a perfect location and the price is affordable. The bathrooms and toilets need renovation and weren’t clean. There’s only one shower for eight people, and the beds have no individual setup, such as a nightstand or electrical outlet. The layout could use some work.

A spacious, quiet hostel with everything you need and a great location. My four-bed women’s dorm was clean and tidy, with wardrobes, a table, and chairs. The bathroom was large and spotless, and the staff were friendly. I’d definitely recommend it.

The check-in time is very late, only at 18:00. On check-out day, I returned to collect my luggage and the receptionist was very rude because I’d used the shower. Tavira is a beach destination, and island trips are a main activity. It’s hard for travellers if they can’t take a quick shower, especially when it’s outside the room, before a five-hour train ride to Lisbon in a wet bikini. Nobody told me at check-in that I wasn’t allowed to shower, and I hadn’t expected that. She spoke to me as if I’d done something criminal, asking what I was doing at the hostel and whether I was staying there.

The staff were brilliant, the bed was comfortable, and you’re close to everything. As a woman travelling alone, I had no trouble staying here. I’ve read the other reviews, but honestly the location is great. It’s nothing especially beautiful, though for the price, with breakfast included, I thought it was a good deal. I’d recommend it.
