Moinhos das Marés

A charming spot for watching flamingos and other birds around the tidal pools. The accommodation was very clean and comfortable, and super quiet apart from the bed springs.

The location made it easy to enjoy both town and coast: the square with restaurants and bars is about a five-minute walk, and the beach takes 10-15 minutes on foot. We loved the place itself, too. It’s beautiful, peaceful, and unusual, with a stunning landscape and a well-organised room that had everything we needed. There are tables and chairs outside, which was lovely for breakfast or an evening drink in the sun. The restaurant wasn’t open when we visited in early June, so we couldn’t try it, though it seemed to have plenty of good reviews. I’d happily come back.

We’re really looking forward to staying here. Margarida and the team were so kind and flexible when I accidentally booked the wrong dates. They sorted out the problem and saved our holiday.

There are only five rooms, so book ahead. The hotel is lovely and well placed by a town worth visiting, with restaurants, a grocery store, and the beach all within walking distance. Having private parking on the property was a real plus, as were the hiking areas around an old tide mill. Breakfast at 8:30 was too late for us, so we ended up eating on the road. The bed could have been better, and we woke to ants in the room. Still, I’d stay again if I were in the area.
