Pensão Agrícola

Such a pretty little hotel and a perfect hideaway on the Algarve. It's surrounded by beautiful scenery, fruit and amazing plants. Breakfast made with local products was another highlight. And the two donkeys living on the property are the hidden stars 🫏.

The location was excellent: you get a farm stay setting, yet Tavira center is only a 15-minute drive away. Pensao Agricola is stylish and quirky, with relaxed, good service, but it didn't quite meet the expectations created by its chic website and relatively high price. The rooms are very small, with little room to move around when you have luggage. We heard other guests say the same. Breakfast was nice and table service beats a buffet, though the choices were limited. As another review here mentioned, the room we booked had been given to someone else when we arrived, and we were assigned a different one. With only six individually designed rooms, booking a particular room was part of the point for us. On balance, we felt quite good about the stay, though a few things fell short.

The rooms and accommodation are beautiful, and we had a lovely dinner by the fireplace. Still, I was disappointed by the service. It wasn't as friendly or proactive as we'd expected, and during our four-day stay nobody once asked whether everything was okay or if we needed anything. Breakfast was identical each day: six measured slices of cheese, pastries and fruit. Some variety would have been welcome. The dinner also felt portioned out and reheated.

We liked the idea of an outdoor bar where you make your own drinks, but €14 for a gin and tonic you prepare yourself felt overpriced. The staff were friendly and the place is lovely. Still, for the price, we expected a bit more: at breakfast we had to go into the kitchen to ask for more coffee, water during the day wasn't included, and we weren't given a proper receipt at checkout. Those are small things, but they affected the value for money.
