We really enjoyed every moment here. Casa de Santa Cruz is beautifully restored, and the rooms blend modern and rustic style while staying very comfortable. The hotel is peaceful and relaxing, with lovely views, a big beautiful pool, and an exercise room. Breakfast was good, though I wish they served fresh scrambled eggs with bacon or sausages instead of only boiled eggs. The staff were great too. I stayed here recently in Felgar, the village my mother's family comes from. It’s beautiful and full of history, so it was especially nice to visit.

The outdoor pool was excellent, and having it heated felt like an extra luxury. Staff were so helpful and couldn’t do enough for us. The room was very comfortable, with superb linen and a spotless bathroom. We visited in August while on holiday in Portugal, and were impressed by how beautifully the building had been restored and how welcoming and comfortable all the different areas felt. We’d book again if we’re in the area.

Exactly one year ago, we travelled from the other side of the world. Our front lawn in Mapua, New Zealand is the antipodal point, directly opposite an olive grove 500m outside Felgar. We wanted to stay at Casa de Santa Cruz, but the owner/manager never replied to our many enquiries, some sent as much as a year ahead. We knocked on the door, and a worker showed us around. We wanted our accommodation business, The Gates Accommodation, to become a 'global sister' to Casa de Santa Cruz. Perhaps they’ll reply one day?
