Dos Cavaleiros

Hotel dos Cavaleiros is right on the main square, with a lovely view of the castle, and we couldn't have asked for a more central base for New Year's in Torres Novas. The rooms were fine, simple and in line with what you pay. Breakfast was a little disappointing, though the hotel was very busy on New Year's Day, so that's understandable. A good pick if you want to be in the middle of town.

The city square is lively in summer, with lots of restaurants and bars, and eating and drinking costs much less than on the coast. The hotel was great, though getting used to leaving the card in to keep the electricity on took a bit, and I missed having a mini fridge. We came for a wedding in August 2025 and found loads to see nearby: dinosaur footprints are 15 minutes away, Fátima is 25 minutes and worth the drive, and there are plenty of castles and caves within 35 minutes in several directions. The coast is about an hour and 15 minutes away. It's a great place to visit in central Portugal for an authentic trip, about an hour's drive from Lisboa airport. It gets warm in summer, but hey, it's a vacation. Most people speak or understand English or French, which helps. Highly recommended!

We could leave the room without rushing and stay until the afternoon, which was a real highlight. The hall was artsy, with an exhibition of art, and the staff were very friendly when we arrived at short notice. A cosy, pleasant hotel in a cute, authentic Portuguese town, and quite cheap too. We recommend it.

We got a bundle deal online in the low season, so the price was ridiculously low for such a spacious, clean, well-designed room. I expect summer prices are much higher. The location is as central as it gets. Staff were professional and helpful, especially Andrea, the Hungarian woman on reception both nights. I've managed businesses in travel before, and I could tell she was talented. Her problem-solving skills were much appreciated.
