The Pearl Troia Hotel

The restaurant team were especially friendly and attentive with the children, and the welcome from customer service was pleasant. We had a nice stay, but several things let the hotel down: there was no air conditioning, the walls were chipped, and the sofa bed was broken. When we needed help with problems, the service wasn’t as effective. Without those issues, it could have been a lovely family stay and felt like a five-star hotel.

The room was missing basic things like an iron, ironing board, and wine glasses, and the TV didn’t work. I called reception five or six times before anyone answered. Housekeeping eventually brought what I’d asked for, more than an hour later, but left the door wide open. I wasn’t there, and coming back from dinner to find it open was very concerning for our safety. Breakfast was disappointing too. There wasn’t much to choose from, and the plates, glasses, and mugs all smelled of eggs. Coffee that smells like an omelette isn’t pleasant. At 11 in the morning, we tried to relax by the pool, but staff started mowing the lawn and using a leaf blower nearby. Then we were asked to leave the area while sunbathing, without any explanation. The indoor pool was also under maintenance, and we hadn’t been told in advance. I rarely write reviews, but this was far below what I’d expect from a supposed five-star hotel. The stay was one inconvenience after another, alongside poor service. I hope management takes these problems seriously. The experience didn’t come close to the standard they advertise.

After just one night, I had itchy spots on my ankle. I didn’t want to shower because the anti-slip strips were past their useful life. Breakfast was mostly cold: bacon, sausages, and beans. The toast was nice, but there was no coffee machine. The outdoor pool was clearly out of use, with leaves everywhere and broken tiles in and around it. The indoor pool wasn’t any better, with green water, and the jacuzzi didn’t work. The gym was too small. The room was large, quiet, and bland, but that was just the start of the problems. We were meant to stay four nights, but checked out after the first. My friend found somewhere else for us to finish the holiday. Reception gave no apology and seemed more interested in the phone than in why we were leaving. To make matters worse, taxis wouldn’t go to the hotel, so we had to take a ferry and then call for a taxi. Don’t go here.

The room wasn’t properly cleaned: sometimes the bins were still full, the bathroom hadn’t been cleaned, and the beds had only been made. The room phone didn’t work for calling reception, and the internet was terrible. We raised the problems with reception, but nothing was done. The pools were another concern. They looked old and dirty, and loose tiles in both the children’s and adults’ pools seemed unsafe. My husband cut his finger on a raised tile in the lobby, but staff did nothing about it. The food was monotonous, with the same menu throughout, and I was surprised that staff at a hotel claiming five stars couldn’t speak English. I was very disappointed with Hotel in Troia | The Editory By The Sea. In my experience, it deserves no more than three or four stars. Don’t be misled by the rating. The hotel falls well short of that standard, so save your money and stay somewhere else.
