The house was clean and warm, though it’s nearly half an hour by car from the ski station, farther than it seems. Sra was in charge of the heating, so we couldn’t turn it on or off ourselves when we wanted, but that was okay. We’d booked two apartments, but two people dropped out, so we used just one. We were five adults and a two-year-old, and didn’t object when she said we could stay in a single apartment. Leaving was another matter. She was standing at the door urging us to go, and was very rude. We had to go out and buy glasses so we could take our lunch to eat at a picnic park. At 10:30 she had also turned off the hot water, so I couldn’t bathe my daughter before our nearly three-hour drive. Casa da Risca is off my list now. In eight years in Portugal, I’ve never been treated so badly at an establishment. I felt like we were being chased out.

The person who welcomed us was very friendly and explained how everything worked, especially the light switches. The village itself is pleasant, and there’s a little river beach with shade. The house is clean and in decent shape, though it feels a bit dated. The furniture colors and woody smell don’t help. The bedrooms are small but fine, and the kitchen and bathroom have the basics. There’s a little old-fashioned TV with cable. Getting there is fairly easy, but parts of the road are steep and narrow. Campervans won’t manage, and longer or wider cars need to take care. There’s a small parking spot at the top of the hill, in front of the house. At 6:30 in the morning, a group of cyclists in the next room woke me up while mixing their concoctions. Not cool... 😡

Unhas is a beautiful village, and we’d definitely return. We spent Christmas weekend there and it felt magical. Dona Manuela welcomed us and saw us off with such warmth and friendliness. She even gave us some delicious kiwis. I honestly hadn’t expected such a lovely reception. The house was comfortable, heated, and very clean.

We were enchanted by everything during our November 2024 stay at casa da rista. It’s a wonderful place for a family, with clean, tidy accommodation and a lovely warm atmosphere. sra.manuela is an incredible person, and we’re very grateful to her for all the love and care. Thanks to Eunice as well for being so professional. We highly recommend CASA DA RISCA.
