The team is welcoming and helpful, and ready to sort things out when plans go awry. It’s a relaxing place with a pleasant garden and pool, and the building stays cool even when it’s 36° outside. The old building has everything needed for a quiet few days. There are a couple of drawbacks: the wooden bedroom floors creak as you walk, and voices from the corridor carry into the room.

The town itself has few things to do, though Sabores da Vila is one restaurant worth visiting, with excellent value for money. At the lodging, the reality didn’t match the intermediary agency’s photos and description of an old but maintained house. It feels gloomy and run-down, and isn’t well kept. The beds are extremely uncomfortable: ours had a hard board under a sagging spring mattress that pressed into your back. Breakfast was meager, with processed pastries. They advertise restaurant service but don’t actually have a restaurant. There’s no private parking either, just street and sidewalk spaces.

This is the old Antiga Estação de Mala-Posta de Alcáçovas, a historic Turismo de Charme. Its banquet hall for events is huge and nicely decorated.

We’re always welcomed with such care and professionalism here, it’s genuinely out of the ordinary. The house is exceptional, and the experience has been extraordinary every time.

The village is very friendly, and the people are warm. It’s a peaceful house, a good choice for a few days of complete relaxation.
