HI Vila do Conde - Pousada de Juventude - Hostel

I made a booking mistake with the gender-specific dorms at Movijovem Vila do Conde. The staff responded quickly and, even though it was my error, they were flexible and sorted it out with a free cancellation. Excellent communication and customer service. Highly recommend their professional approach!

The building is beautiful both outside and in! 🥹 The bed was great too 👌🏽 It's just a short walk to the ocean 🌊 so good!

The old building is really cool, and the albergue is only a few blocks from the beach. My main issue was the timing: check-in at 4 p.m. was the latest I’d come across on my Camino. When I arrived to leave my bag, reception was empty. A note said someone would be back soon, but after waiting half an hour I had to carry my bag around town for three hours until check-in. After a long day walking, that was extra stress I could’ve done without. The showers also have fully glass doors, which could be awkward if you’re sensitive about privacy. Still, it’s a good spot.

The staff made this place for me, especially the young man on the late shift. He was kind without laying it on thick, and when he noticed me washing clothes outside after a long Camino day from Porto, he offered to put them in the dryer since they wouldn’t be dry by morning. I arrived late and they were flexible about it. You can check in as late as midnight, and checkout is at noon. It’s a spacious, renovated old family home with gorgeous interiors, used by students, pilgrims, and tourists. I believe it’s partly owned by the City, or another public body. Everything felt very clean. The bunks aren’t pods, but they’re sturdy and offer decent privacy; there’s also room nearby for your things. Towels, sheets, and a light blanket are provided. You can hand-wash clothes outside and hang them up. The mix of guests was pleasant, with younger and older people, pilgrims and tourists. It wasn’t a party place, which made it easier to sleep. Breakfast comes with the price: simple but decent, with a good coffee machine and a buffet that had what I needed. The toilets and showers were perfectly functional for this sort of accommodation. The upper bunks don’t have their own charging socket, though I easily used one in the six-bed room, so it wasn’t a problem for me. The beach is just a few minutes away on foot, from what I saw on the map. I felt comfortable here, and for the price it’s great value for Camino walkers, with plenty of space and a nice setting.
