Azores Youth Hostels - Santa Maria

The pool was one of the reasons we picked this place, but it's unavailable and nothing seems to be getting done about it. The bathrooms were disgusting and definitely didn't look regularly cleaned. Breakfast was average at best, with a bread heater that barely worked and a juice machine dispensing sugary water. Not worth the price. I wouldn't recommend it. Go somewhere else if you can.

The morning sun wakes you up, and the view of the Atlantic is fantastic. Rooms facing the street can be a bit noisy, though island traffic isn't too heavy. It's just a few steps to the town centre, and breakfast can be enjoyed by the pool. The pool isn't heated, but it's still great. We were there in the low season and were very satisfied with the price for what you get. It's very clean and friendly, though you shouldn't expect four-star service. Breakfast is solid. Thanks to the hostel team for their hospitality. We can recommend the place.

There are no cooking facilities or fridge, which was a downside. The breakfast was good, and the common room and breakfast room are very spacious and open all day. Internet works very well in those rooms, and there's a big TV and a pool table. I stayed for two weeks. The hostel is right by the marina in a very central spot, with a lovely pool, sunbathing area, and sea views from many places. I shared a four-bed room, where everyone had a large lockable closet for a 2.50 fee. The staff were very friendly and keen to help with requests. The hostel was incredibly clean, with rooms cleaned thoroughly every day, beds moved aside and freshly made. Towels are available to borrow for 2.50 euros.

The included breakfast wasn't very good. When I visited, the pool was being maintained, and the rooms had three bedrooms with bathrooms shared on the floor. It's a nice place overlooking the harbour, about 10 minutes from the airport and close to the city.
