There’s a supermarket right nearby, though restaurants and shops are a long walk away. It’s quicker to reach them by car. The breakfast room is comfortable, the food is warm, and the coffee is hot. Our room had lots of space, with a bed and sofa, and the bathroom was very large. The air conditioning didn’t work very well, keeping the room around 15-20°C.

Our twin room was dated but worked fine, and the balcony was a nice place to relax outside the room. I can’t imagine how a third bed would fit, though it’s listed as an option. Breakfast was basic but enough, much like a Holiday Inn. There were no irons in the room or available to borrow, only paid pressing. The gym was a joke, a big room with the oldest exercise bike, treadmill, and elliptical I’ve ever seen. The location was handy for grocery stores, gas stations, and getting onto the interstate. While we were planning and hadn’t booked yet, the room rates changed a lot.

The breakfast staff made this a deeply disappointing stay. They were discourteous, and when I raised it with the manager, nothing happened. No apology or follow-up. We were staying five nights, booked for six people, but received only one bottle of water for the first night. I’m diabetic and take my tablets 30 minutes before eating, so each morning I went to the restaurant early to take one, then came back later for breakfast. My wife doesn’t eat breakfast, although we had paid for two breakfasts each day. One morning, a staff member accused me of taking breakfast twice in front of my friends. I calmly explained the situation, but they were rude, dismissive, and wouldn’t listen. It was embarrassing. On another morning, I went to get food after sitting down, and someone else took my seat. I simply moved to another table, but a waitress reprimanded me and said I couldn’t keep moving tables, as if I’d done something wrong. Again, I was told off in public for no reason. For a hotel that claims to offer a quality guest experience, this customer service is unacceptable. Staff need training in basic manners, cultural sensitivity, and treating paying guests with respect. Based on this experience alone, I wouldn’t recommend the hotel.

The rooms are presentable and practical, with an excellent mattress and bed linen, and the bathroom is clean and modern. Staff told me the rooms are due to be refurbished later this year, which should make the hotel even more appealing for a long weekend or as a base for exploring the area. It’s an outstanding hotel in Vila France de Xira, in the Ribateja region, about a 30-minute drive from downtown Lisbon. Recommended!
