Casa da Praia do Ribatejo

The hosts are kind and welcoming, which makes the stay feel especially lovely. Breakfast is very pleasant, served on a terrace overlooking the river, with traditional tiles all around. The house is an old, rustic Ribatejo home with dozens of rooms. It’s very well cared for and feels warm and inviting, with newer beds and some furniture alongside old pieces that bring back memories of other times. The property is about 300 metres from the Tagus River and feels like a peaceful hideaway surrounded by nature. There’s plenty of outdoor space, much of it shaded by trees, with chairs and loungers on different levels facing the river. On warm days, the filtered-water pool is a welcome place to cool off. At night, the loungers are also good for watching shooting stars, and the low light pollution may make it possible to photograph the Milky Way. You can follow a path beside the Tagus during the day, passing the imposing Almourol Castle and continuing to Tancos, where there’s a nearby train stop for getting back to the Praia do Ribatejo house. Another, shorter path from the house leads to the pretty village of Constância. You might spot herons, birds of prey or even foxes along the way. Santa Margarida Natural Park is also fairly close. Its tropical butterfly house has species from the Americas, Asia and sometimes Africa, and requires a reservation.

The room has no air conditioning, but its size is acceptable. Nice views of the Tagus, a pleasant breakfast, and a friendly owner.

A really welcoming little refuge, with nature right outside. The hosts are warm and friendly, and breakfast with homemade products was top notch!
