Casa Gwendoline - Albergue / Hostel / AL - Caminho da Costa

We loved the grounds as much as the house, and ended up adding an extra day just to rest here. This was our favorite albergue on the Portuguese Camino. Lawrence was wonderful and helped with everything we needed. The rooms were spacious and comfortable, and the food was great. He put together a special group dinner for all of us. My husband also loved getting to play the nice guitar there.

The hosts are so sweet, and I slept well in the good bed. It felt really homey here, especially with the home cooked dinner. They also had a vegan or vegetarian option.

Casa Gwendoline was a beautiful place to stay, and I loved taking it easy in the garden and talking with the other guests. I hadn't found a cafe for about the last 10 kms before arriving, so I really appreciated being able to get eggs, toast, and cheese on a pay what you want basis. The pilgrims meal was tasty and the setting was nice, but 10E for a garden salad and bread wasn't quite enough after hiking 23 km. I could have done with something more filling.

Getting up to the house is a steep climb, but my four friends and I agreed it was one of our favorite places to rest on the Camino, even with injuries in the group. The view is perfect, and we greatly enjoyed our stay. The home is beautiful, clean, and so welcoming. Our kind, accommodating host went above and beyond to help, especially with those of us who were injured. Many thanks. I highly recommend it.
