Salty Days Lodge

Salty, the super friendly dog, was a highlight, and the chilled atmosphere, beautiful scenery, and refreshing pool made this the best hostel I’ve ever stayed in. Hilla and Benjamin were absolute legends, always helpful and friendly, and helped make it one of the best times of our lives. The surf lessons were great value too, with awesome teachers. I’d highly recommend a visit if you’re going to Porto.

I came back to Salty's for the oceanfront location and the service. Joana, the Manager, always makes sure you can get the most out of your stay, and the staff are great. The bungalows by the pool are amazing, with spotless private bathrooms in the garden. Obrigado :)

Just one night for me while I was on a pilgrimage, but it was exactly the restful stop I needed. The staff were warm and helpful, the calm location was good, and the beds were comfortable. There’s also a big garden where you can relax by the pool. It felt like home, and I’d recommend it without hesitation.

The garden is lovely and being near the beach was a plus, but we left two nights early because we were so unhappy with the stay. The beds were awful: folding frames with loose mattresses that slid around, and sheets that were too small. The towels smelled, and the shower head wouldn’t stay mounted, so you had to hold it. Breakfast was just white bread, sweet jam or Nutella, and cereal with milk. There wasn’t much to do nearby, which isn’t the hostel’s fault, but they also didn’t have the bikes their website mentioned. Arriving was frustrating too. No one answered the door or phone, even though people were sitting outside, so we came in through the fence. We were told check-in would be two hours later because of cleaning and that they’d texted us, but we hadn’t received a message. When we returned, the room still wasn’t ready. Once it was, we were handed a key with no information about breakfast, activities, or surf classes. The manager also tried to charge us the full amount again even though we’d already paid a deposit. It was corrected, but the whole process felt messy. We couldn’t tell who was staff and who was staying there. Only one staff member was kind and showed interest in us, and we knew she worked there because she said hello every day. There’s potential for this to be a nice hostel, but it needs more professional staff or better oversight of the volunteers.
