Quinta da Telheira

I liked the place, though it felt a little more isolated than I wanted. The pool is the main draw, but it could be a lot warmer. Some extra things to do would be nice, like ping-pong or pool tables, or maybe a slide into the pool.

We were there for four nights with our toddler and would happily have stayed longer, if not for the wildfires in the region. Manuel and the whole staff were so gracious and welcoming; we felt very well looked after. The setting is peaceful and remote, yet easy to find, with good phone and internet service. Vila Real, Regua and lots of wineries are a short drive away. And be sure to try the port wine! It worked really well for families. There are several play areas with toys, books, play kitchens and doctor sets, a shallow pool for little ones, a large pool, and a big indoor hall with a trampoline and inflatable bounce castle. Breakfast was wonderful, with good coffee, fried eggs and ham, and very fresh pastries. Their pastel de nata may have been the best we had in Portugal. The bathroom was luxurious and had a soaking tub. The views were breathtaking, the accommodations fantastic, and the staff kind and welcoming. A couple of small drawbacks: the mattresses are quite firm, which may not suit everyone, and the A/C was finicky, making the room either too hot or too cold without circulating air evenly. Bring bug repellent too, the mosquitoes can be aggressive.

Lovely walks, fresh fruit from the garden, and a great swimming pool. The views were amazing, and the staff were kind. We had a very nice stay in a beautiful spot.

The atmosphere was relaxed, and the food was excellent. Elsa, our host, was extraordinary, advising us and looking after us so well that she exceeded our expectations in every way. The young team is very friendly and has lots of potential, though they still have some experience to gain in certain areas. We’d come back!
