The one real advantage was the very central location, and someone did come to service the air conditioning. The beds were okay, but most mattresses were wrapped in plastic for protection, which made them sweaty and unable to breathe, though I guess it's cheap for the hostel. Breakfast was extremely basic, and the Wi-Fi was very weak, apparently because the routers are old. At first glance it looked nice, but this was one of the worst hostels I've stayed in. There were lots of people hanging around who didn't seem to work there or be travelers, along with their dogs in the kitchen. People smoked all sorts of things, brought others in, and took over the common areas. They also smoked on the patios in front of the AC, so bad smells got into the dorm and there was noise. The atmosphere wasn't good, and it felt strange, more like a place for those people to hang out than for guests.

I've stayed here regularly and am always glad to come back. The owner and staff are so friendly, and when the heat is intense, the little pool is just right for a soak. There's air conditioning and fans in the rooms, and you can buy cold beer or soft drinks at reception. The location is ideal, a block from the old city center and the tourist police station. It's also near a bus stop for buses from the 'new' city center, and an easy walk to the riverside beach and Paseo Marítimo.
