The pool was clean and peaceful, with a big TV for watching a game over a drink. The rooms are a little worn, but the beds were comfortable and the staff courteous. This feels like an older place in the same style as Gran Hotel del Paraguay in Asunción, with a quiet, old-world charm. It’s definitely not five-star by global standards, but taking in the sunshine and fresh air here feels like stepping back in time. The grounds look a bit faded, though the grass is well kept, and ostriches and llamas wander around freely. There are padel courts too, but I’m not sure how they work, so check first. It’s also handy for visiting San Bernardino and Areguá on a weekend. I even managed to save a rather ambitious diver in the pool! Thanks 🙏

I’m writing in good faith because the way reception handled a room-access issue left me very concerned about guest privacy. On Saturday, February 7th, 2026, at about 17:30, a staff member came into my room without my explicit permission while I was changing near the bathroom. Reception later said the guest next door had asked for maintenance on the connecting door, which was why staff entered from my side. From what I saw, they came in without getting a clear affirmative response from anyone in my room first. My wife was at the door and doesn’t speak Spanish, and staff didn’t clearly explain why they were entering or try translation to make sure she understood. That evening, reception gave the explanation dismissively and seemed to treat the neighboring guest’s request as enough authorization to enter our room. My best recollection of the words, translated with Google Translate from text written by reception, is: “We were told by the neighboring room to come fix the interconnected door on your side.” That isn’t acceptable. The choice about our room belongs to us, not another room’s occupant. The facilities are the best I’ve experienced in Paraguay, and most staff were professional and courteous throughout my stay. I understand this may have been a rare procedural mistake rather than intentional misconduct. Still, it points to a need for clearer training on room access and privacy. If reception had simply acknowledged the concern and reassured me it wouldn’t happen again, I wouldn’t have left one star. Instead, the response suggested a misunderstanding of basic room-access practices. Permission should come from the occupants of the room being entered, regardless of what a neighboring guest requests. I hope the hotel takes this feedback constructively to improve training and the guest experience. This reflects only my personal experience and good-faith opinion about the events described, and isn’t an allegation of wrongdoing or misconduct by the hotel or staff.

The beds were softer than at other hotels, and the place was quiet and peaceful. It’s one of the nicer hotels we’ve found in Paraguay, but the quality of most things felt low, with big cracks in the doors, poorly cut tiles and similar flaws wherever we looked. They charged us an absurd amount for one day, then charged me more when I was leaving without any reason. It came nowhere near being worth $300 a night, especially for a porch bathtub they call a hot tub that never gets above 33°C.

I stayed again this week (04/25), and the room and service were excellent as expected. The restaurant was disappointing, though. I ate better food at Almirante cafe across the street. My earlier stay was in room 306, which was spacious, clean and modern, with a large balcony.

A massage at the spa was really nice, and the manager or owner (?) came over to check in with us. The food and service were lovely too. Our rooms were sparkling clean, with a little fridge to keep wine cool. It made for a lovely escape from the city. We’ll certainly come back, and I highly recommend the place.
