The setting is stunning, and the cabins were designed in a really original way. It feels like a small piece of the Atlantic Forest, though the grounds are somewhat cramped. The promotional pictures of la Wayaba look as if they were taken a long time ago. Maintenance is clearly lacking. The bedside ledge was broken, and both the large cabin window and door had broken locks. Earlier reviews had apparently mentioned this for months, but nothing had been fixed. When we raised it, the owner denied the locks were broken. Security is a real concern here: the frontier has its issues, the lodge isn't in a smart area, and you can get in by simply pulling the gate aside. The cabin smelled damp, had cobwebs, looked worn out, and had plenty of mosquitoes even in the early afternoon. With the security problems too, it wasn't somewhere I wanted to stay. The staff seemed uninterested even before we arrived. I asked how best to get to the Argentine side of the Iguazú falls, then got a message 24 hours later that just said “GPS?” That wasn't helpful. Driving your own car is the worst way to go, since Argentine border checks for private vehicles can take hours. When we reported the problems, they seemed more resigned to hearing the same complaints again than interested in fixing them. As we say in Paraguay, it's all a bit “asi nomas”, meaning whatever. It's a shame because the location and setup could offer so much more.

A horrible stay. Don't be taken in by the photos or Booking.com. The place was dirty and dimly lit, and the shower was so awkward that you practically had to figure out how to use it. The receptionist changed the price three times. We went to the restaurant on the receptionist's recommendation, and it was a disgrace. We were eating separately, and when I tried to order, they didn't have what I asked for, only empanadas. When I complained, the woman taking the order was incredibly arrogant and said, “it's not your fault.” We ended up taking away burnt, disgusting empanadas. Truly awful. Don't go!

We live about an hour away and ended up going home. We'd booked a day stay hoping to enjoy the facilities, but no one told us in advance that barbecuing on Sundays is no longer allowed. We've been coming here for four years, so being treated so poorly was especially disappointing. We brought our meat, charcoal, and everything else we needed. Only when we arrived did they tell us about the new rule. We asked if they could at least keep the food in a fridge while we used the lake, but they didn't offer even that. There were few guests and at least four grills available, yet when we asked if we could pay separately to use one, they refused without any flexibility. There was no common sense, empathy, or consideration for customers. The service left a lot to be desired. We don't recommend it and won't be back.
