Adventure Lake Resort - Simared

The setting by the lake is lovely, and our room was spotless, with a very comfortable bed, a huge bathroom, and everything working properly. Housekeeping came daily. We also liked the always-available coffee machine and pastries in the pantry, especially since the restaurant is closed during the week. The coffee there was good, and the pier grill served fresh, tasty food. Getting started was frustrating. We arrived on a busy Sunday afternoon and faced a long reception line, where boat rides and other activities are sold. Staff seemed rushed and gave us little information, so we had to keep going back with questions about where things were, activities, and food. There wasn't much for a five-year-old: the adventure park and ATV rides are for older kids, despite the resort promoting itself to families. We got a boat ticket for Sunday, but while we waited near the pier, the 5 pm boat left before we reached the boarding point at about 4:53. Reception kindly changed our ticket to the next day, but it was still unpleasant. Dinner was another letdown. The restaurant looks great and overlooks the lake, but the fish soup, stuffed eggs, chicken salad, and chicken burger were cold, stale, and not tasty. The mayonnaise in the eggs seemed old and dry, and the chicken breast was cold, dry, and bland. We were told the bar and grill would be open the next day, but only the bar was. Breakfast was poor too: boiled eggs, frozen pastries baked that morning, yogurt, milk, and cereal, with no vegetables or salad. Fruit came out after breakfast had ended. The woman preparing breakfast, though, was extremely kind and helpful. Our room key also worked as a resort card, and someone else's charges showed up on ours until the end of the trip. Luckily, we checked before paying. The worst part was our son's toy. He left it on the pier, an employee found it and gave it to another child, and our son spotted it in that child's hands less than two hours later. There was no lost-and-found process, which I found unacceptable after having worked in hospitality, where lost items were handled very strictly. We got the toy back, but a piece had gone missing, and our son was upset when he noticed it. It spoiled our evening.

The breakfast was a highlight, especially the woman who prepared it. She went out of her way to help us. Multsemeem! The place is clean and modern, with beautiful surroundings, great facilities, plenty of activities, and friendly staff who are always ready to help. A stunning stay from beginning to end.

The restaurant food was delicious, and everyone on staff was so friendly. It's a beautiful, quiet area too. I'd happily come back.
