Casa Balcescu

Set in an old building in Brașov’s old town, this accommodation has been converted into apartments. The high ceilings and herringbone floors give it character, while the bathrooms are modern and clean. There’s paid parking in front, plus an inner courtyard where you can leave bicycles safely.

The main issue inside was how noisy the floor is. Every time someone walks across it, it wakes you up. There’s only one mini fridge for an apartment meant for 10 people, and the Wi-Fi barely reaches some rooms. There’s no AC either. The shared inner garden was dirty and smelly. The building looks very old from outside, almost as if it might collapse, and tourists share it with people who live there.

We’d already paid 100 euros by card before arriving, so we stayed because we couldn’t get the money back. When we spoke directly with the staff, the price for a triple room was also much higher than the Booking price. The woman from Casa Bălcescu was extremely rude and disrespectful. She’d misled us about parking, and when we tried to discuss the problem and find a solution, she acted childishly and couldn’t explain herself.

Really clean, with a nice old, authentic feel to the building. It’s about as close to the center as you can get, and we had a great experience.
