Golden Time Hotel

The bed sheets had various stains, and room 104 was tiny with a strange hole in it. A toilet light was broken. When I asked a staff member to fix it, they said the other lights worked, so it “is enough.” The safety setup was just as troubling: the emergency exit plans were hand drawn, incorrectly oriented, and didn’t show where to go after leaving the room. You’d have to mentally flip the image 180 degrees. I can’t see how this passes a proper inspection. The dim corridor lights were motion activated, and sometimes didn’t come on, leaving you walking through the dark. To reach the small first-floor rooms, 100-104 or so, you have to carry your suitcase down another flight of stairs. There’s only one small elevator for all floors. The old lighting and carpets make the hotel look dated and dirty. It might have been a real four-star hotel thirty years ago, when it was new, but now it badly needs a major update and has questionable safety standards. Stay away unless you’re fine with old design and concerns about cleanliness and safety.

The restaurant was a lovely surprise. We tried the Lebanese meze, and it was truly delicious. Mihai was a great host, and the menu also includes Romanian food. The hotel was okay, with spacious rooms, though it’s a little outside the city. The old town was completely full.

The parking was convenient, and the bed was large. The place was clean, but the spa and gym in the basement were hard to access and outdated. Breakfast had plenty of food, though the service felt unkind, especially from staff who seemed stressed. At 20:40, I tried to order dinner to my room and was told it wasn’t possible until the next evening. The price doesn’t match the experience. It feels more like a two- or three-star hotel.

Breakfast was good, and the staff were helpful overall. It’s a good hotel in the new town, rather than the old town, with most amenities and parking available. I’d have appreciated some spare toilet paper, since the roll was nearly finished, and complimentary water like other hotels provide. There was plenty of shampoo, but no shower gel.
