The setting was beautiful, surrounded by mountains, and the pool was the one thing that made our stay more comfortable. But there were so many issues with the room and hotel. Some rooms have air conditioning and some don’t; the mobile units in the rooms that had them smelled really bad and were dirty, apparently not cleaned. The bathroom door had to be slammed to get in and would catch on the cabinet. Our room was cleaned only once in five days, despite going more than three days without cleaning. There was nowhere to put rubbish, no bins in the room or outside, no towel hooks, and no refrigerator. The balcony was very dirty, with bird droppings, and the carpet couldn’t be washed. After a few minutes in white socks, they were dark. The shower gel and shampoo samples were expired. Breakfast was very poor: omelette was the only hot option, there were no other foods, coffee, drinks or fruit, and if you came an hour later there was practically nothing left. The pool was great, but there were so many chemicals that they stung my face and body. There was also no clear information about the basics, like what to do when the receptionist locks up. We came back around midnight and the whole hotel was locked, so we couldn’t get in.

The room we got was quite large, and breakfast was really good. The location is great, and the price is good considering it feels more like a hotel than the nearby “houses turned into airbnb.” My only gripe is the door locks. You’d think they’d switch to card keys or install better locks than the key ones.

We arranged a private feast for 32 people in a separate area of the hotel. Communication was very good, everything was agreed and part of the cost was paid in advance. They set the tables beautifully. The service could’ve been better, though: we often had to wait for drinks, and couldn’t order any while the food was being served. We’d requested and ordered vegetarian sarmale in advance, but it wasn’t provided. They offered a replacement, so that was sorted out. In the end we got everything, and the food was the main reason we were there. It was amazing, truly delicious. After years of travelling around Romania, they have the best Papanasi I’ve ever had.

The hotel is family-run and well kept, and the location is good. My only issues were that the restaurant shut by 9 pm and the pool opened quite late. Maybe that was because it was still winter.

The motel boss wasn’t friendly. We asked whether they could give us a discount for taking three rooms, and he told us to find another hotel. In the end we found one 500 m away, where the staff were friendly.
