Hotel Merty

The staff were friendly and accommodating, but there wasn't much they could do about the noise. The room itself was clean and comfortable, yet that didn't make up for a sleepless night. I booked a street-facing window expecting a peaceful stay, but the most popular Manele club in Constanţa was right across the street, playing loud music until 8 AM. The bass was so strong the windows literally vibrated. No sleep.

We brought the whole family here for an event. The staff were extremely helpful and involved in organizing it, and the breakfast was very good. The rooms are cozy and really nice, and the bathrooms are spacious. It’s a three-star hotel with more of a four-star atmosphere. I highly recommend it for weddings or other events where you need accommodation for guests.

It’s good value for money, in a great location with points of interest and entertainment areas close by, even out of season. The local climate seems to affect parts of the hotel that aren't apparent on the website. Although the building is new, humidity has taken a toll on the wallpaper and click-together floorboards, which need replacing. A heavy-duty, humidity-resistant wallpaper and proper wood flooring or tiles could help. The hotel's general appearance and the rooms don't currently match. In my room #116, the bathroom looked outstanding, but a glass partition between the shower and the rest of the bathroom would give more privacy and stop water from spreading across the floor. That would also save the cleaners from having to wipe it up. Small details matter too, like the missing working door in front of the fridge. After more than 20 hours of flying with one stop, I wanted a shower and a scotch. Instead, I found out at reception about a double booking and that my apartment was being replaced with 2 x 2-bed rooms. If there are system glitches, I would like an email about the double booking before check-in. I strongly believe the hotel could meet international hospitality standards and improve its reviews by addressing these issues.

The staff were good, which is why I gave the place 3 stars. Our room was clean and the 220 lei price was reasonable. Breakfast tasted great on the first morning, but there was confusion at check-in: we were told it was included, then charged for one day. The second day's breakfast was free, though it wasn't as good as the first. The air conditioner also made a loud noise when we switched it on.
