8/10

What worked well: The room was a decent size, comfortable, and practical for living out of bags. The bed was comfortable, and the hairdryer was nice. There was air conditioning that was quiet and worked really well. The balcony was a useful size, and the swings, trampoline for kids, loungers, and hammocks gave you places to relax. There were wall dispensers for soap and shower gel, which I found more practical than tiny bottles or bar soap. The TV had a good choice of channels, including English and German ones, plus plenty of music. Housekeeping was good. The place was kept tidy and clean, the desk and nightstands were dusted daily, towels were changed every day, and the sheets every third day. It’s about a 15-minute walk to the beach and close to lots of minimarkets. The internet was outstanding, around 200-300 Mbps both up and down. There are several routers, so you may need to try them to find the best one for your room. In my room, 205, the reception router gave me a more reliable signal than the one on the second floor. I had no trouble parking during my stay, though the lot is small for the number of rooms, so that could depend on how many guests bring a car. Some drawbacks: It’s a new building, but there’s no lift, so you have to carry your luggage even up to the fourth floor. The carpet had stains. There were strange, spring-like noises from the ceiling when it was windy, which got annoying with the balcony door open. Rooms facing the street could be noisy at times, especially when local drivers raced by in rattling cars without mufflers, revving until the cutoff. The shower has no curtain, which may look modern, but it’s hard to keep water from splashing onto the floor. There was no cup, glass, or holder for toothbrushes. There were also spiders on the canteen ceiling, waiting to join dinner. There’s no pool, and I think one would make guests happier and improve the place’s image. I also really disliked the room lighting. The bulbs were around 6000-7000K, bluish and almost violet. I’d prefer around 3400K, a warmer yellow light, for a bedroom. Bright blue light late in the evening can make it harder to fall asleep because it signals daytime to your brain and keeps you alert. Sunlight is around 5700K, so I hope they eventually replace those bulbs with something more normal. We stayed five days with half board. If you’re picky, I wouldn’t choose it, since there isn’t much variety. Breakfast was eggs, scrambled eggs if you got there early, frankfurters that weren’t very tasty, bread, and salami. It was pretty 'meh'. At dinner, the choice was pork or chicken, with bread, sometimes rolls, pickles, and a very small serving of roast potatoes. Some days there was mash or fries instead. The roast potatoes were the best part, too bad they served so few. The waiter was friendly, quick, and helpful, but didn’t speak any English. The first time, he used Google Translate to explain chicken schnitzel, grilled chicken, or pork. Whether half board is worthwhile depends on the final price, your tastes, and what you expect. If you’re fine eating nearly the same thing each day with white bread, it may suit you. Otherwise, there are lots of options in town. A tasty, large slice of pizza near the beach costs 6 Lei, about €1.20, and there are eateries around town with plenty to choose from. Dinner for two is around 50-100 Lei. The hotel was nice and fairly close to the beach. One issue, though: when a towel fell from the balcony, they didn’t replace it.

The rooms were spacious and everything was very clean. The food was an 8/10, but those stairs were a nightmare. They really need an elevator.

The service was slow, and the table hadn’t been cleaned for the new customers.
