The host was warm and welcoming, almost like a grandmother, and cooked generous amounts of very good food, with lots of extras. That was the best part. The bathrooms smelled because the drains had no siphons. There’s a hole between each pair of bathrooms, supposedly for ventilation, but in practice you can swap toothpaste with the person showering next door. Each shower stall has an electric shower, which made me wonder how nobody had been electrocuted. You can also hear everything from the other rooms and bathrooms. There’s potential for a cozy place here, and the large yard is one example, but there were only two chairs and three children’s stools, so a group of more than ten would mostly be standing. The dining room felt like a dark bunker, with scraps, debris, and broken things around. Everything seemed very cheap, there was just one tiny pillow, and the sheets looked as if they’d been there since the place opened a decade ago. The shower doors wouldn’t close, so it was easy to flood the floor, and there was nowhere to sit except on the bed or the wooden chair in that dark dining room.

The pension itself is two-star, but the service feels four-star. The host is a lovely woman, and there’s great Romanian-style vegetarian food for everyone.

Probably the best place to stay near focul viu. The host is a nice person, and you’ll find what you need for a pleasant visit.
