Hilde's Residence - Guest House

This was a terrible experience, and I'd never come back. The place feels like another tourist trap in the region. It's close to the center of this run-down town, where there's nothing left to do. The decor is absolutely kitsch, and the operation feels improvised and amateurish, despite the location having been open twelve years or so. The accommodation seems to be a former Romanian house, probably Hilde's parents' house, turned into crowded rooms with cheap furniture and slippery bathroom floors. The dining room has a few sticky tables with no privacy at all. She has two other buildings, one two-story and one wooden, as you can see in the Google pictures; inside, they're completely obsolete. The staff seemed untrained and probably poorly paid, which was obvious when interacting with them. The food was another major disappointment: despite how it's presented on her site, it was tasteless, low quality, and had no authenticity. The accommodation and services were extremely expensive. The owner seemed false and bitter. Sorry to be rude, but that's my opinion. Someone like her can't fool me.

The traditional Romanian food was cooked beautifully, and the atmosphere was great. The service was perfect. Everyone was welcoming, friendly, helpful, and funny. I'd highly recommend it! 🏆

We rented about nine rooms as a group, and the staff gave genuinely caring, high quality service throughout. One room had a harmless beetle on the floor, which we took outside. Another had maybe two dozen bugs that looked like flying ants when we arrived. I imagine that's pretty normal for this climate if you leave the window open. It took us all of ten minutes to get rid of them, though it did leave us feeling paranoid at bedtime. No issues that night or the next day. The staff interactions felt genuine, and they seemed to really care about our stay. I'd highly recommend the place, especially because the restaurant serves food at every meal, so you don't need to find somewhere else if you're willing to pay a bit more for fine dining.

The staff are well trained and apologized several times for the wait the last time we visited, during the holidays, when they were very busy. Usually the wait is acceptable, and I always enjoy going back for the great food whenever I'm in the area.
