We spotted more than 70 bird species on the Delta boat trips, and Andrei was so knowledgeable and helpful, making sure we learned and saw as much as possible. The three nights at Bunica Maria were a lovely experience in beautiful surroundings. Andrei and his wife were friendly hosts, the room was comfortable, and the food was generous and plentiful.

Andrei’s passion for the Danube Delta and his knowledge of the birds made the trip memorable. He and Irina welcomed us into their home and were attentive hosts throughout. For anyone who loves birdwatching, I’d say a 3-4 day stay at Bunica Maria is a must. Thank you, Andrei and Irina.

We saw over 50 bird species on trips around the impressive Danube Delta. Some areas that had been agricultural fields have been opened back up to the water. Andrei, a wildlife photographer and nature lover, was a dedicated, knowledgeable guide who was always ready to help. We loved our stay at Bunica Maria, and Andrei and Irina’s meals made with local products were a real pleasure.

The homemade food, friendly staff, and clean, comfortable rooms all made for a pleasant stay. In Mahmudia, near the Danube Delta, Bunica Maria - Guesthouse for birders has a rustic, traditional feel alongside modern amenities. It offers birdwatching tours in a well-known bird paradise, and its location is handy for boat trips on the river. The place felt cozy and relaxing, with good value for money.

The house is filled with bird photos and books, and birdwatchers will appreciate the coffee machine for guests. We had a delicious dinner in the garden, where, if you’re lucky, you might spot a little owl or a spanish sparrow. Andrei knows when to slow the boat so you can focus on the birds, and he shares plenty about both the species and the Danube Delta. A highly recommended stay for anyone passionate about birdwatching.
