Hotel Dacia Sud

This year’s visit was disappointing. The salad was dry and black, nothing like the menu picture, breakfast was horrible, and my cutlery was dirty. I’ve dropped my rating from four stars to two. Parking also isn’t free this year. I used to rate it four stars because of the location, the view from the apartment and its terrace. The hotel is fairly comfortable, affordable compared with others, and easy to get to. I like eating out on the terrace. It’s also suitable for older people since there are no stairs and there’s a good elevator. If you stay, ask for a sea-view apartment on the third or fourth floor. They’re more spacious, with bigger bathrooms. First-floor rooms look onto a roof, and some rooms are so small they feel suffocating.

The holiday ended with a sour taste. The beach in front was dirty and had no sun beds, despite the hotel advertising two per room on its website and in the agency brochure. Restaurant service was chaotic. A waiter said he didn’t know whether the menu was in English because he hadn’t read it. We kept getting the wrong orders, they forgot items, and meals arrived more than an hour later, one by one instead of together. We ate there only because meals were included. Breakfast was very poor too, and the yogurt we took was blue and smelled bad in its container. They advertised hotel parking, but even paying guests were told their space wasn’t guaranteed if they drove out, because they let other people park there. The rooms were cramped, with barely any space to pass the bed. The bathroom was so small that the door could hit you while you sat on the toilet. The balcony was too narrow to step out comfortably if your shoe size was over 40. Rooms weren’t vacuumed, sheets were changed only once during our week, and the pillows and blanket had spots when we checked in. A waste of time and money, and a disappointing end to our Romanian seaside holiday.

The pizza was good, but the staff were awful and the wait to check in was long because they wrote our details on paper instead of using hotel software. The waiters were rude, and you have to go to reception to pay by card since the restaurant doesn’t take cards. The air conditioning didn’t work, and the minibar was empty.

My old negative review had been visible here for years, then suddenly it was taken down for supposedly breaking a policy. I don’t know what changed. Because of that, I’m giving the hotel one star, apart from its location. If location is all you need for a decent stay, go ahead. Otherwise, avoid it.
