Nyota Hotel & Conference Center

The lake-view rooms are my favorite. Sitting on the balcony with a bit of fizz and watching the sunset is lovely. It’s also great to have secure parking. The hotel is luxurious and clean, with a fantastic breakfast and an ideal spot for the beach. There’s a wonderful pool with a bar, plus weekend barbecues at the roof bar. If you’re visiting Mamaia, this is a wonderful place to stay.

The reception told me the AC is connected to a movement sensor. When it doesn’t detect movement, all the electricity in the room cuts out. What a stupid setup. I was left bracing for a miserable night at 30 degrees C and woke up with my phone and watch batteries drained. The AC wasn’t working unless I was dancing. I checked out a day early and definitely won’t be back.

The rooms looked modern and were nicely furnished, and the shower had excellent pressure, temperature, and space. The air conditioning worked well in one sense, but I could never get a comfortable temperature. It was either too cold or off, so I kept adjusting the thermostat because those seemed to be the only two settings. WiFi was terrible. Telekom service was bad too, though that wasn’t the hotel’s fault, and I had no decent internet option during the stay. The room was cleaned every day, and the cleaners were helpful and courteous. Still, I stayed eight nights and never got more sugar or coffee for the room. Coffee at breakfast was really nice, but breakfast didn’t open a minute before 8:06 each day. The breakfast itself was 4/5, no complaints there. Dinner service was rudimentary and didn’t feel customer-focused, and I wasn’t impressed by the turkey schnitzel or cheeseburger. Our party needed separate bills, which seemed to irritate the server, and we stopped eating there in the evenings after that. There’s another restaurant upstairs, open on Fridays with a reservation, I believe. I looked at the deck, which was nice, but wasn’t there on a day it was open. The dining area was pleasant, well decorated, and clean. Front desk staff were helpful, though the lobby always smelled strongly of perfume. I didn’t use the pool or beach facilities, so can’t comment on them, but the beach is mostly small shells. The parking garage worked fine and had security staff present. It was a business trip, but the hotel seemed well located for the area, with plenty of beach access and dining options nearby.

The staff were friendly and really helpful, and I had a pleasant stay overall. My apartment on the third floor was beautiful, and the location worked well. The road outside stays busy day and night, though, so sitting on the balcony for a cigarette felt stressful instead of relaxing. Also, the doorknob came off as soon as I entered, which seemed odd for such a new hotel.
