St.Vlas Apartments Mamaia

The apartment matched the pictures, and the host was great. He called before we arrived to ask when we’d get there, and the beach is close by. The one disappointment was the pool: its water wasn’t heated, just warmed by the sun. I have back problems, so I didn’t get in, which is why I’m giving it four stars. Otherwise, I’d confidently recommend the place. Next time I’ll pick an apartment with a sea view 😁.

The apartment was okay and the location was really good. I’d booked and arrived early. The pool water was very cold and dirty, and the waiter reproached me about it.

The apartment had a very large living room with a big sofa, dining space, a newer TV, a spacious fridge, and everything we needed, including a washer and dishwasher. It was clean and the bathrooms were well equipped. There were three bedrooms: two near the living room, sharing a bathroom, and one at the end of the hall with its own. The beds were large and comfortable, with a good mattress. The bedrooms were a bit small, though, and we couldn’t fit our daughter’s crib. Water pressure was weak enough that we couldn’t shower in the main bathroom and the bedroom bathroom at the same time. I stayed on the fifth floor, apartment 23, and had two reserved parking spaces near the building. The elevator wasn’t working, which made hauling things for the whole stay difficult. Arriving and leaving were especially hard, and it didn’t seem right to see tourists dragging luggage up the stairs. There’s strong air conditioning in the living room, but it doesn’t cool the apartment evenly. The bedroom with its own bathroom is farthest away, and could use a portable unit for better comfort. We couldn’t open the windows at night to air things out because noise and music from nearby places were extremely loud. The bedroom window and living room balcony door have insect screens, and that bedroom also has blinds. Downstairs, the pool was very clean, with loungers; there are also loungers in the apartment for sunbathing on the balcony. It’s a good place to stay, and you can feel wonderful there, but I reported a few issues. I give the location four stars for its position near the beach, the conditions, and the amenities, but only three for value for money, for the reasons above. It’s worth coming back if some of the shortcomings are fixed.

We didn’t accept the offer and felt we were being misled. We’d reserved the day before, and he hadn’t mentioned any issue. When we arrived, he told us the elevator was broken and we’d have to walk up to the fifth floor. I understand he didn’t break it, but he could have told us in advance. It seemed to me he was counting on us having driven 600 km and arrived in the evening, so we’d accept whatever he offered. He kept saying he hadn’t lied, and I explained that while he hadn’t lied directly, he’d deliberately left out the elevator problem. We went up to see the apartment. It smelled bad, had ugly old tiles that looked about ten years old, and only one air conditioner for two rooms. He also bragged that he was the building president. The way he spoke to us as customers was mocking. He basically told us, “If you don’t like it, leave,” and kicked us out. My youngest daughter is five and needed the toilet. He got very angry that she peed and used it. A dog would need to pee too. The man is very unserious, and I don’t recommend booking with him under any circumstances. There are much better apartments next door, with much better people.
