Voila Mamaia

The staff were really friendly, breakfast was great, and the restaurant food was good. The beach is close, and the bus to the train station stops just across the way. There's also a kids' playground. The room was functional, with working plumbing and good shower pressure, plus a nice little balcony. The hotel needs renovation, though: the tiles need replacing, the pool needs cleaning, and the gardens need trimming. The rooms also need new tiles, mattresses, and better curtains.

The outside setting by the lake is nice, and there's a place to eat as well as the hotel's own restaurant. But the room was dirty, and we couldn't check in around the 13:00-14:00 time we asked for because cleaning wasn't finished. The pool is tiny, really only suitable for a few children, and the pictures don't match what we found. I wouldn't recommend it to someone with principles. To me it's a 2-star place, despite being listed as 3.

The sunsets are wonderful, and there's a small marina nearby along with a restaurant that has a courtyard. I really enjoyed staying here and would come back. The building's architecture makes it clear this was once a big resort, and while some facilities are old, the price gets you nice accommodation. The woman at reception and the restaurant waiters all helped make our stay enjoyable.

I got dizzy and sick from a strong, intoxicating smoke coming from the wood-fired heating system right next to our room. Closing the door didn't help, so I had to leave the property. The room and bathroom were dirty, the bathroom had no ventilation, and some amenities were broken. For what they charge, the service is really bad, and this isn't a 3-star hotel. It's more like one star or a motel at best, and it's incredibly overpriced in peak season. The restaurant is expensive too, with prices like a 4-star hotel. There are much better places to stay or eat, and I'll never return.
