Hotel Traube

The restaurant and hotel gave us rather different experiences. At the restaurant, the waiter was friendly, attentive, and listened to us, and we chose to have dinner there partly because hotel guests get a 10% discount. The gulyás soup was excellent, the burger decent, and the mixed meat platter was mostly good. The “mici” were raw inside, though, even after we asked for another batch. The 10% discount also wasn't taken off the bill until we pointed it out. My tarragon soup wasn't quite the classic recipe, but it was okay. Breakfast was included and covered the basics, though there wasn't much variety. There were fried eggs, a somewhat oily omelette, cheese, cold cuts, sausages and hot dogs, tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, and bread. More variety, especially for legumes and dietary restrictions, would help. The hotel is right by the central park in the city center, and our room was very spacious, with both a bathtub and shower. It had vintage furniture and an old-world feel, and the cleaning was excellent. The receptionist made check-in easy and responded very quickly when we needed something. I also loved the wide, fluffy towels. We were there during the Mediaș Days festival, so the night noise was intense, as if the crowd were partying in our room. The next night we noticed the windows didn't close properly, which let the sound through. It was a little better the second night, but still not great. Water also started dripping from the ceiling, likely because something wasn't working properly when the guests above used the bathroom. The staff responded quickly and offered us another room, which we appreciated. There's charm here, good staff, a central location, and very clean rooms, but maintenance and sound insulation let the stay down during a loud weekend. Maybe I'd come back.

The hotel and restaurant were clean and quiet, with lovely furniture, a pleasant view, and good music while we ate. The location is right in the city center, and they welcomed our two dogs. Lunch and dinner at the restaurant were worth four stars, as were the waiters' service. Don't miss the papanasi, gulas, or ciorba de tarhon. We'd be happy to return. Thank you!

Everything was spotless, and the staff were friendly, polite, and helpful. The rooms are tidy and nice, with a classy feel throughout the hotel. There's lots of wood, which makes the place warm and welcoming, and the ceramic floor tiles are lovely. The restaurant has a good range of local distilled drinks at affordable prices. The hotel is right in the historical city center of Mediaș, in a building that's a piece of history itself. I recommend visiting the cellars, known as “cramă”. I'd happily stay here again when visiting Mediaș.

We stopped for a meal. The food was so-so, and the service took ages. The young waitress didn't even reply when we said goodbye. I understand cultural differences, but that came across as rude.
