Hotel Otopeni

The room was clean, though there was a tiny mark on the bathroom mat. What really bothered me was how cold it was: it had been snowing heavily in Romania, with roads closed, and they still hadn't turned on the heat. The shower leaked badly, the door and its lock felt flimsy, and noise from people talking and making coffee carried into the room. Outside, ice and snow hadn't been cleared from the hotel and parking area. I saw a girl and a couple fall. Check-in was late at night, and the receptionist seemed bored, so I had to drag the conversation along. The restaurant and the airport location are the best things about the place. The stay was decent otherwise, but I don't think it was worth the price. Maybe it would be better in summer, when you aren't freezing in your room.

The airport taxi service worked well at any hour, I think. During the hotel's power outage, the younger staff tried to help and were friendly, but the senior staff were impolite and fell short on service. It was very hard to get any light in the rooms, and there was no lift. Eventually they brought us some candles. I know the blackout was beyond their control, but the senior staff still handled it poorly.

The room was quite small but otherwise clean, and the bed was good if you like a firm mattress. There was a strong smell in the shower room, probably because it hadn't been used, and a big insect was on the ceiling.

The rooms looked clean, new, and well cared for, so I have no complaint about them. The airport transfer was harder: pickups are at departures rather than arrivals, and it wasn't easy to communicate with the drivers. Breakfast wasn't great either. The coffee was poor, and the breakfast area looked very dated.
